On a snowy night in Uptown, Chicago, Playboi Carti made a quick stop to The Aragon Ballroom on Nov. 15 that left the audience joyful but bruised from the insane mosh pits and inexpensive tickets, costing only $35. The concert was the sixth stop of 22 dates of his current Neon Tour, in which he is traveling around the nation.

In the beginning, Carti didn’t come out until around 8:45 p.m., but it was worth the wait. On the stage, a huge screen turned on and started playing a fake nuclear warning saying in a deep robot voice that there was an “attack” heading to the U.S. and all the tour locations were blasted on the speakers with the crowd cheering when Chicago was announced. When that was over, the moment everyone has been waiting for finally happened. Playboi Carti rushed on stage, wearing his own merchandise with two heavy chains around his neck, rapping along to “R.I.P. Fredo,” from his most recent album “Die Lit.”

My favorite performance that night was most definitely “Shoota.”  The song from the album featured Lil Uzi Vert, whose lyrics were covered by the DJ and had the crowd shining their flashlights. This track starts out with Uzi’s verse first and then leads into Carti’s rapping.  When the rapping started, him and the entire crowd started going crazy and jumping around with orange and white fog shooting out into the audience. I couldn’t even get a good video because everyone was so close together and nobody cared if they bumped into others.

Carti also performed “Let It Go,” a banger from his debut album “Playboi Carti.”  Before the song started playing, Carti guided the audience into making a gigantic mosh pit in the middle of the floor. Once the circle was made, the song started playing and the second the beat came in, everybody sprinted towards the middle.

The finale from the concert was a cover of “Take A Step Back,” by Ski Mask The Slump God and the recently passed XXXTENTACION. The bass was so deep I felt the vibrations in my toes. Although this was a very fun song to jump around to, Carti just left halfway through the song. He never came back out to thank us for coming and spending our time and money on this. It felt like he didn’t care about us and was only there for the money.

Playboi Carti put on one fun, sweaty and energetic concert, and at the end of the day I got some new merch. Even if he did leave without a warning, this was one night that I will never forget.
