Every year during the second semester, more than half of the senior class pays a fee to enter the Senior Assassin tournament, an elaborate game of tag using water guns. This year, one of the co-coordinators is Max DeMonte ’26.
“I have lowered the [fee] to $5 this year,” DeMonte said. “I want to give everyone a chance to play, and once everybody starts paying, it becomes a big domino effect. Everybody will tell their friend to pay.”
Before the event even started, the other two co-coordinators, Delilah Pawlowski ‘26 and Jackson Vaughn-Kajmowicz ‘26, sat together at lunch one day while joking about running a senior assassin tournament this year.
“We were like, let’s think about it,” Pawlowski said. “Then impulsively, we just made an account. We’re really trying to build an engagement with everybody. It should not just be fun for seniors but also enjoyable to watch.”
This year, Pawlowski said that the weapon will be a water gun with an orange cap to distinguish it from a real gun. Furthermore, it cannot be battery-operated or used during school hours; this will result in disqualification. The immunity item will be oven mitts that can’t have holes in them because they will cause people to shoot their target while having immunity.
Although the immunity item may be annoying for some, oven mitts won’t be the only immunity item. People can vote on immunity items for the next rounds and customize their own posts, such as music and captions.
“We’re trying to make it a little more difficult than normal,” Pawlowski said. “The first round tends to move very slowly.”
Other rules that DeMonte and Pawlowski said are that school, work, religious spaces, medical care facilities, gyms, and homes are safe zones, but if they are invited to come to their home, it is no longer a safe zone. Additionally, the LT school parking lot is not a safe zone.
“Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone,” Pawlowski said. “Even if you don’t know your target, it really makes Senior Assassin so special because it connects people.”
