The varsity boys lacrosse team started this season with a nine-game winning streak, including winning their first conference match against OPRF 14-4. The team hopes to make it as far as they can and continue winning throughout the spring season, Midfielder Quinn Conniff ‘26 said.
“We knew going into the year that we had a big job ahead of us, as we graduated 19 seniors last year,” Head Varsity Coach Charlie Kidder said. “There have been a lot of learning moments for the team, but myself and Coach Seamus Hughes have been really impressed with the resilience of this 2026 squad and their ability to learn, read, and react.”
A difference in the coaching staff for the lacrosse team is that Kidder and Hughes are both LT alumni; Kidder graduated in 2017, while Hughes graduated in 2018. The experience of playing for LT varsity lacrosse and their passion for the sport allow them to relate to the athletes on the team and better coach them, Kidder said.
“Being a senior this season has been pretty bittersweet,” Conniff said. “It is sad because I will never be able to play with these guys again. I am also looking forward to this season because I have put a lot of work into my play, knowing I will never play for this team after this year.”
Conniff has played for the varsity team since his sophomore year; over that time, he has grown as an athlete, becoming stronger and developing his skills as a midfielder. One of his favorite parts of the lacrosse program is meeting many different athletes like himself and establishing close relationships with them.
“I would say that this team is super connected; we always do a lot of stuff together outside of games and practices,” Conniff said. “This past weekend, we went to Northwestern to watch the Notre Dame game all together, so we tried to do bonding activities, which helped make all of us really close.”
Early in the season, the team suffered injuries to starting players Danny Brooks ‘26 and Michael Aylesworth ‘26, which worried many athletes on the team, Captain and midfielder Tavis Seger ‘26 said.
“With the loss of last year’s seniors and starters getting injured, we have still been able to keep up with the competition,” Seger said. “We stay focused during our practices and put in a lot of work as a team, which has been paying off throughout the season so far.”
Seger tries to be a leader to the younger members of the team. Having been on varsity since his freshman year, he takes the knowledge he has gained and passes it along to younger Varsity athletes, as the seniors did for him, Seger said.
“What makes the team special is that the guys have a lot of heart,” Kidder said. “This team, from top to bottom, has a lot of guys that care and are willing to make the sacrifices you have to make to be successful, and I think that’s what makes it a really fun group to coach.”
