The one-act comedy “The Devil in Sherman Marsh” was brought to the SC PAC on Nov. 20-22 as this year’s now-renamed Fresh Faces Play. 

“The play as a whole is pretty chaotic, and I honestly don’t think there is even one boring scene,” actress Leah Timpe ‘29 said. “It’s really funny and well cast.”

The play follows the relentless nerdy high-school student Sherman Marsh, who, bullied by his peers and rejected by his crush, discovers a magic trading card that allows him to make a deal with Lucifer to become popular. This Faustian bargain goes predictably awry, and Sherman attempts to outsmart Lucifer and design a deal that won’t involve comedic unforeseen consequences.

“My role is one of the bullies, and I find it fun that I get to use my frat boy/Disney movie bully accent for it,” actor Aidan Bender ‘29 said. “I also enjoy putting [Parker Frommelt ‘29, who plays Sherman] in a headlock. Highlight of my role.”

LT’s Fresh Faces Play was renamed from the Freshman-Sophomore Play, as upperclassmen who have not previously participated in LT theatre are now allowed to audition. 

“Seeing as we are a massive school with two campuses, we just wanted to give a chance for upperclassmen who may not have been bitten by the theatre bug early in high school the same chance we were allotting to our freshmen and sophomores,” Director Michael Kuehl said. 

The cast is made up of 28 underclassmen and one senior, Analia Medina ‘26. Several roles, such as Counselor Jones, Tonya, and Jessica, were double-cast. 

“The most enjoyable part of the show is the amazing cast,” Jayden Sharma ‘29, who plays Toby, said. “I’d consider every single one of them a friend of mine.”

The show ran for 50 minutes and the performances were at 7 p.m each night with an additional 4 p.m performance on Nov. 22.
