Five months after the November 2015 release of his fourth studio album Purpose, Justin Bieber took to the stage at Allstate Arena on April 23 and 24, two dates of his nearly nine-month-long Purpose World Tour. Though I only attended the Saturday performance, the two shows no doubt came through with the same message: Bieber is back.

Bieber is undoubtedly a different performer and person since his 2013 Believe tour – and it showed. Everything, from the choreography of the show to the two openers Moxie Raia and Post Malone, illustrated the transformation that Bieber has undergone since the very beginning of his career. Raia’s rhythmic “On My Mind” and Malone’s catchy “White Iverson” both perfectly set the mood for the rest of the show, and reiterated the melodic maturity in Bieber’s new sound.

With “Mark My Words,” Bieber began his concert with a bang. Beyond the music, some of the coolest parts of the show were the lights and stage props, including a giant trampoline raised over the crowd in “Company,” and an enormous pulsating light box in “I’ll Show You.” Between the choreography, props, and Bieber himself, it was impossible to avert your eyes from the stage as each number provided a new experience for the audience.

Incorporating all types of music — from the upbeat “Where Are Ü Now” to an acoustic set featuring “Love Yourself” and a cover of Ernie Halter’s “Come Home to Me,” as well as songs from past albums Journals, Believe, and My World 2.0 — Bieber perfectly executed a concert that incorporated all types of music. One of the best parts of the concert was when he performed “Baby,” during which the entire stadium sang along as Bieber performed the My World 2.0 throwback.

Although at points Bieber would let the backing track do the singing, the concert itself was an immensely entertaining experience that rivaled the two previous Bieber shows I have attended over the past six years. With the album highlighting the new sound Bieber has developed since the days of “One Time” and “Baby,” the show continued to reinforce the fact that Bieber’s music doesn’t just appeal to teenage girls anymore, but for all music lovers.

Bottom Line: Whether you’ve been a Belieber over the past few years or not, the Purpose tour delivers as Bieber succeeds in performing what might just be his best tour yet. 4.5/5 Paws.
