After not placing first in conference for the first time in 10 years in their 2015 season, LT’s varsity boys lacrosse is playing for redemption and to reclaim their title, Varsity Head coach Tim Duffy said.

“The hope is obviously always to win a state championship,” attacker Charlie Kidder ‘17 said. “A smaller more personal goal would be to rebound from last season and win a conference championship.”

With last year’s starting lineup consisting of relatively young players, the loss of last year’s seniors will not have an immense impact on this year’s team, Kidder said. This year’s team, consisting of 26 players, has eight new underclassman, with only three seniors on the starting lineup.

“[Having a younger team] is interesting because you get to see a lot of the seniors, juniors, and even sophomore step up as leaders,” defender Jack Walton ‘17 said.

In preparation for the season the team has been training together throughout the off season, Duffy said. Starting in October the team has met every Wednesday night to play intermural games and had been conditioning three days a week since the start of January.

“I’ve seen a lot of younger [players] really develop in the off season,” Duffy said. “I think that this will make up for our loss of last year’s seniors.”

Letting up only six goals in their first two games, one of the team’s strengths this season has been its strong defense, Duffy said.

“Our defense, led by goalie and 2015 MVP Joey Rabello ‘17 is very big and physical, making it one of our biggest strengths this season,” Kidder said.

Along with their strong defense, the team has been working to improve its offense, Walton said.

“We struggled putting points on the board last year,” Walton said. “Having trained and improving throughout our offseason will hopefully help us this year to reach our goal of a conference championship.”

The team remains undefeated in their season having played three games against Carmel Catholic, Brother Rice, and St. Rita. The team will play next against Conant High School.
