LT will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration to acknowledge and recognize the work Martin Luther King accomplished and pursued throughout his life on Jan. 15 from 6:30 to 8 pm. The celebration will take place in the SC Performing Arts Center featuring the Maywood church choir, the national anthem, black national anthem, the LT steppers, a piano piece from a LT student, and a poem reading, advisor Elizabeth Watkins said.

Students from the Black and Multi-Culture Club spent the majority of the year planning for this event, which has taken place the last five years. The program theme is that ‘Everyone Can Be Great,” a reference to one of King’s final sermons.

“The program is to help students and the community come together and recognize all his [King’s] endeavors, activism, and service,” Watkins said.

Last year, the program hosted 150 people both students and churches from the surrounding area.

“They hope to provide a program to celebrate King’s legacy and life before Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Day, to the whole community,” Watkins said.
