The LeaderShop has partnered with Lyons Township High School Peer Leadership Club to offer opportunities for high school students to give back to their community.

“Volunteering is a great way to be involved in your community but also to build leadership skills,” Katie Wiseheart, Program Director at The LeaderShop, said.

Peer Leadership is a club where students focus on service, giving back to the school and surrounding community, Jane Bauer, Peer Leadership advisor, said.

After school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, members of Peer Leadership, LTHS students, have the opportunity to cross Willow Springs Road, and make their way over to The LeaderShop, located at 4903 S. Willow Springs Rd. Here, they offer whatever academic skills they have to help tutor grammar school students.

“We really are offering students opportunities to be a leader,” Bauer said.

This club has partnered with The LeaderShop because they have similar morals, values, and beliefs, Wiseheart said.

“I was involved at Peer Leadership, and they would remind us that The LeaderShop was right across the street,” Sandra Kahn ‘20 said. “I got in contact with Katie and the Tuesday/Thursday program is what I decided to do.”

The LeaderShop offers four tutoring programs after school throughout the week, and they are located in Eastern La Grange, Western La Grange, Brookfield, and Summit. The programs occur after school and run from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If a student tutors at the location on Willow Springs Rd., they would be able to tutor for an hour after school, and then take the late bus home from LTHS South Campus. Personal schedules are taken into consideration, and the best program to fit the student is what The LeaderShop would match them with.

“We could always use tutors,” Wiseheart said. “We’re accommodating of your schedule. We need people year round, and we’re always welcome to new volunteers.”

If interested in being a tutor, a student would call The LeaderShop at (708) 579-5898 or email Wiseheart at [email protected]. A student would also have the ability to walk into The LeaderShop and inquire about tutoring in person.
