Molly Murphy Bruton has been chosen by the board of education to serve out Todd Shapiro’s term until April 2017 due to his recent resignation at the beginning of the school year.

“She is a very bright person, has a wonderful temperament and a passion for education,” Board of Education President Tom Cushing said. “She is someone who I feel right away will fit in very nice with the board.”

She is very involved in the community, Cushing said. She participates in the Lyons Swim Club Board, BEDS program, Grand Avenue Community Center Board and Western Springs Service Club Board, among other things.

“She is very aware of what is going on in the community,” Cushing said. “She recognizes the problems and this helps with the sense of what the challenges are and what we need to focus on.”

Bruton knows the culture of LT because she has had three of her children attend and graduate from LT, she said.

“I think education is the most important thing a student can have,” she said. “I get to work with the other members of the board and protect what LT does well and help make improvements in the years ahead.”

She will receive an equal vote like the rest of the board members and will work alongside the members, Superintendent Dr. Tim Kilrea said.

“She really values kids and providing the best education for them,” Kilrea said. “I think we all just want someone here who is going to make LT better, and I believe that she is here for that exact reason.”
