With five shots lurking until perfection, everyone at Rolling Lanes tossed aside their personal matters to turn to lane 18. There, LT Bowling anchor and co-captain Jack McGuinn ‘16 continued to shut down the opposing Hinsdale Central Red Devils strike by strike to roll his and LT’s first ever 300 game.

“I was a little nervous because everyone stopped bowling and was crowding around me,” McGuinn said. “I had rolled a 279 where I was perfect through nine frames the weekend before at the Plainfield North Invite, so I knew what it was like.”

While 12 strikes in a row may not seem difficult, no LT bowler has succeeded until McGuinn did Tuesday, Nov. 24. The previous record was held by Robert Kicmal ‘14 who had a 289, followed closely by his twin brother Mike Kicmal ‘14 with a 288.

“[My brother and I] were one and two on the all time high game list at LT but [McGuinn] crushed it today so I’m kind of ticked off,” Mike said.

This 300 game tallied a 758 series for McGuinn and capped a 3317-2577 victory over Hinsdale, moving LT to a 3-0 record with tough opponent St. Charles East coming up on Monday Nov. 30.

Teammate Colin Temple ‘16 is one of five LT varsity members that has seen McGuinn grow and progress as the team’s anchor during the season.

“I’ve seen the ups and downs of [McGuinn],” Temple said. “I had a weird taste in my mouth all day, but I knew that meant something good. Today was a different day for [McGuinn].”

Coach Gary Morill has been coaching and helping McGuinn in the past four years for not only bowling, but for baseball as well and knows him as competitor inside and out.

“The difference between today and other times that [McGuinn] has been close was that today was a very loose atmosphere,” Morill said. “He was able to joke around a lot out there and still find success.”
