Adrian Ramirez and Santino Salinas

The following are excerpts of various raps of two members of the six-person hip-hop group Universal Nomads Influenced Through Evolution (UNITE).

“Rhapsody” excerpt by Adrian Ramirez ’17

All the tragedies lead to the demise, and that’s my masterpiece

Ain’t looking good as Vincent’s or Pablos, grab a plate of food for thought, that’s my rhapsody

Anger and confusion light my fuse, ignite the fusion, sad but that’s the truth and

Nothing changing it, dreaming of the future makes me dizzy and see delusions

In the city, legends are made, even in Chicago the best will be praised

To live your life like there ain’t no next day is how we were born and raised

I pray there’s a better day for this chicano bandit

And I resist to exist in any where that I imagine

Liar like Dr. Branom, produce infinity like Lee Bannon

Unstoppable force Like Sam Jackson

Wish wish wish to be married to a beautiful woman like Nick Cannon, refuse to lose the crew, I won’t abandon

Lift lift lift, all of my staminas

Cramped rambling on with less and less energy like the effect is lazarus

I’m as serious as a heart attack, ever changing like cat eyes

If the future and present tell the truth, then the past lies

“.CTRL” excerpt by Ramirez

Little boy done came from that block, he had it all but would you really wanna stop,

Him and ruin what he’s doing, he’s making it happen, that image that he pursuing

And I’m so close to falling off, being pushed from the roof

Starting over and achieving the unachievable, seeing my family on the stoop

They trying to break me in like my new soles

The overdose of control without console

Violence makes violence, you know that, I know it, then why doesn’t anybody show it?

In other news, things done changed along with it

From cotton picking to lock picking, from Will Smith in it to It was All Written, I’ll get rid of the forbidden sinning, I admit it, it’s gonna take a lot to shoot me down, I’ll blast the sound and take others out, what’s your base homie? Why you trying to start loosely around:

The formula of success, don’t battle with regrets, what’s left to gain when you know you won’t have any less?

“2007” excerpt by Santino Salinas ’17

How you been mark, how you doing, sorry you didn’t reach the goal you were pursuing, imma make your name live on even though you in heaven, and you know I’ve been missing you since 2007, make my mac 11 disperse, wanna do a couple drive by’s in a hearse? Nah man, I don’t mess with folks, don’t mess peoples, yours and my story is enough to make some sequels, I ain’t told nothing yet, this is just a prequel, they let your killer go like what he did was legal, I was to young to understand what happened to you, I was to worried about what animal was my favorite at the zoo, attention, not enough room in the ICU, so imma get outta you hair like your favorite shampoo, just in the wrong place, wrong rendezvous, last thing I remember was us at the family barbecue, trying to find the missing clue like Sherlock, but got stopped by b-rabbit like I was poppa doc, but I keep my eyes on the prize like a hawk, I guess ill see you at the cross roads or the board walk I know some people aren’t going to like this song, its a touchy subject but you have to stay strong, should know that you cant right past wrongs, cause it takes forever, it takes too long, had to tell you the truth, had to be blunt about it, imma succeed even though some others doubt it.
