Lyons Township varsity football bounced back from its loss on Aug. 27, defeating Addison Trail 56-0 in a home game this past Friday, Sept. 3. The win brought extra merit to senior night, an annual tradition at LT.

In contrast to the opening game’s first quarter, LT managed to score only 42 seconds into the game with a 62 yard run. This was followed by an additional three touchdowns leaving the final score of the quarter 28-0. No field goals were missed the entirety of the night.

Thirty seconds into the next quarter, LT continued applying pressure, making the score 35-0. Throughout the remaining eleven and a half minutes of game time, LT earned two more touchdowns to conclude the second quarter with a score of 49-0.

After a final touchdown in the third quarter, Addison Trail watched their time to make a comeback run out in the fourth, ending the game with a tally of 56-0.

“It felt good, [we] ran the ball better,” backup quarterback Aidan Sullivan ‘22 said. “[I was] proud to witness [our] touchdowns [tonight].”

Sullivan ran a touchdown himself as well. But Friday night was more than just a second wind for LT. It also served as the celebration of LT’s seniors, with parents having the opportunity to welcome their players to the field for the first time in a year and a half.

“[It was a] great experience [for my] last year as a senior,” safety Xavier Mendiola ‘22 said. “I appreciate [my parents’] sacrifices for me, [and] I’d like to thank them very much. Senior night is a memorable tradition here at LT.”

LT faces off against rival team Hinsdale Central at Dickinson Field this Friday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.
