Before he embarks on his next chapter at the University of Notre Dame, Danny Kilrea ‘18 ended his time in the LT Track and Field program with a bang: in the 3200 meters, Kilrea won yet another state title with a time of 9:02.77 at Eastern Illinois University, according to the website Athletic.net.

“It didn’t take long into his freshman year to see the determination [Kilrea] had in the late stages of races,” Head Cross Country and Track and Field coach Michael Danner said in an interview with the LION earlier this month. “He’s been in contention in every race he’s run.”

Kilrea, who was awarded The LION’s Athlete of the Year, has earned commendations for his continual success at the state level and in races on the national and international stage.

He placed third at the Foot Locker national meet, fourth at the Great International XC challenge and fifth at the Nike Cross Nationals, according to the LION’s Athlete of the Month profile of Kilrea.

Additionally, Kilrea won another individual state title at the state cross country championships in Peoria earlier this school year. The year prior, he placed second.
