Hearing rumors about sequels to your favorite childhood movies being released in 2019? Wondering if they’re true? We’ve got the scoop and again, I’m here to recap the films coming to a theater near you, sooner than you think.

As a preface, this topic of childhood nostalgia movies is going to become a series here on the LION Newspaper website. This first edition is a preview of many movies coming out in 2019 that are sequels to some of the most popular movies from LT student’s childhoods. The rest will be reviews of each movie. The first of nine childhood sequels is “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” which drops on Feb. 8. It is one hour and 46 minutes long, with a ranking of 7.4/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. Continuing with the idea of the first movie, civilians of the LEGO town are threatened when invaders from outer space come down to earth to destroy everything. The main characters Emmet, Lucy and Batman, along with their friends, have to defeat the enemies and restore the LEGO town back to its original state.

Next up is “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” the third installment of the movie series. Released on Feb. 22, the one hour and 44 minute film depicts Grimmel, the movie’s villain and his plan to eliminate all dragons. It is up to the Viking leader, Hiccup, to unite his people in finding a hidden land, Caldera, that has the key to saving the main dragon, Toothless and all of his dragon friends. The movie received 7.2/10 from Rotten Tomatoes.

The release of the sequel to Dumbo movie is March 29, with no official rating yet. Dumbo, the young elephant of the movie with oversized ears, helps a circus through a hard time. But the circus plans a new adventure, and with the help of Dumbo’s friends, they uncover dark secrets about the circus.

On May 10, the ever popular Nintendo game, Pokémon, is coming to theaters near you. Pokémon Detective Pikachu is about an alternative universe that people catch Pokémon in to use to face against others with. When a boy discovers the most popular Pokémon, Pikachu, he suspects he is an intelligent detective. The movie has no definite rating yet.
