LT administration is partnering with UChicago AdventHealth to host their fourth annual clinic at SC on Sept. 27. The event will take place in Gyms One and Two, running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“It’s a great event,” Principal Jennifer Tyrrell said. “It’s an opportunity for individuals to get support and services in a ton of different areas.”
The clinic offers a wide range of health support, including help for both mental and physical well-being. They offer five notable services, such as in-person teeth cleaning, a pharmacy area for prescribing medication, vision tests, laboratory screenings, and physical therapy. Their care is flexible and tailored to meet individual needs. There are no restrictions on how many services one chooses.
“We opened up as sort of a market community for anyone who didn’t have access to health care,” SC Associate Principal Greg Gardner said.
The clinic accepts walk-ins without appointments, offering immediate care: no ID is required, and parking is free. Students interested in a winter sport are encouraged to do their IHSA sport physicals at the clinic.
“It’s great that we can be a partner to the hospital and help bring this type of support to life with [the clinic],” Tyrrell said.
The clinic is all volunteer-based, with LT students serving on the hospital’s youth advisory board as well. LT also works with the homeless liaisons in West Cook County, with the clinic serving Cook County, DuPage County, Will County, and the surrounding areas.
Gardner mentioned SC as the ideal spot due to more parking availability. Visitors can park and head to the pool entrance without worrying about being overwhelmed.
“SC is right across from LaGrange hospital, which is a plus,” Gardner said. “Additionally, Willows Springs Road is a pretty busy road.”
This means the majority of the flyers are posted where people can see them as they drive by.
“We hope there will be more people than last year because it means more people have access to health care that they may not have,” Gardner said.
The attendance has increased each year, averaging over 100 visitors will receive care from over 100 doctors and nurses who volunteer their time for the nonprofit organization.
“This type of event aligns with our values and our mission as a school,” Tyrrell said. “We also want the event to continue and make it a yearly tradition at LT.”
The clinic brings a close connection to people and the community. Although LT hosts the clinic, it is up to UChicago AdventHealth to make the call if they want to continue the event. They have no plans to expand to NC, but instead, they aim to raise awareness among families who may not be aware of the event.
