On Saturday, April 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the LT Corral, Winning With Wyatt (WWW) Junior Board hosted a dance party beach bash. Local kids in grades second to fifth were invited to a fun-filled night that ultimately helped raise awareness and financial support for pediatric brain tumor research.
“WWW has taught me the importance of raising awareness for such an important cause among children and adolescents,” Vice President Nora McPartlin ‘26 said. “Despite the heaviness of the topic of pediatric brain and spinal tumors, the junior board helps kids understand and get involved.”
WWW is dedicated to finding a cure for pediatric brain and spinal tumors, the disease that is the leading cause of cancer deaths in children, McPartlin said. WWW’s mission is to build awareness of the impact these tumors have on children through events, fundraising, and advocating for more advanced treatment. The Junior Board specifically supports WWW’s mission to build awareness among youth of the impact of pediatric brain and spinal tumors and advocate for funding.
This was a night for kids to enjoy an event with their friends while also supporting and becoming aware of a good cause, McPartlin said. Along with this, parents were made aware of this organization and were able to continue to help the cause through a separate donation or by attending one of the WWW main board’s formal events.
“This organization means a lot to me and the rest of the Junior Board because we’ve put in lots of work to get everything ready and to make sure everyone has a good time,” board member Louise Kallemeyn ‘27 said. “We want kids to participate in this event because it’s fun and the money raised goes towards a great cause.”
There was dancing, games, raffle prizes, and temporary tattoos and face paint, Kallemeyn said.
“Planning these events can be stressful, but the outcomes make it all worth it,” McPartlin said. “Specifically, our Western Dance Party event for kids raised more than $8,000 after months of dedication from our junior board. Receiving feedback from both adults and kids about how much they enjoy these fundraisers never fails to brighten my day. When we see that the funds we raised are contributing to research towards finding a cure, the work of the board feels most impactful.”
