LT administrators have been formulating plans for renovations to the NC building as a whole, whether that be the air conditioning issues or the timeliness of the elevator. These issues are being addressed the most during the summer of 2025. While parts of the building are air-conditioned, administration has decided to include extra units of air conditioning in the construction plans, along with the new elevator installation.
“It is an expensive endeavor; we needed to put out a bid and get board approval,” Sarah Smith, NC associate principal, said. “The elevator near exit 8, its mechanical parts are all getting replaced to make it faster and more reliable.”
While there is a second elevator in the Vaughan building, it is slightly newer and will not be replaced.
Due to the amount of construction occurring in NC, summer school will be hosted at SC this year, even with the cafeteria construction happening, Smith said.
“Summer of 2026, there will be additional construction so that everywhere in NC is air conditioned,” Smith said. “The air conditioning being added this summer will be implemented in the west and south side classrooms of the second and third floor.”
Restrooms have always been an issue at LT, whether that be installing vape detectors or plumbing issues. The plumbing issues specifically will also be addressed in the summer of 2025.
“There will be restroom renovations next to exits 3 and 4 by the Reber Center,” Smith said. “There will be fixture tiles, plumbing fixes, and lighting issues will be addressed.”
This project costs $12.3 million and will be paid for with funds from District reserves, Superintendent Brian Waterman said. Many of these changes were approved through various contractors during the February Board of Education meeting.
“These changes will hopefully create a more comfortable learning environment, with students being able to focus more in air-conditioned classrooms, and students will not have to wait as long for the elevator,” Smith said.
Students of the class of ‘26 and ‘27 will be able to experience these changes first.
