Shines, Niego lead LT to commanding win over Proviso West

Luke Lusson, Reporter

With two tough road games against York and Glenbard West looming, the LT boys varsity basketball team knew it needed to get a win at home on Friday.

And the team did just that with a dominant 72-56 victory over Proviso West. The Lions came out of the gate red hot and never looked back in a game where they never trailed.

Tyrese Shines lead the way for the Lions with 16 points off the bench and Connor Niego added 15 points. Deveon Bryant scored 24 points in a losing effort for the Panthers.

Overall, it was a balanced effort for the Lions, who desperately needed a conference win after dropping three straight games, including a tough one-point loss to archrival Hinsdale Central on Feb. 3.

The win moves them up to 11-11 overall and 3-7 in conference. Proviso West drops to 11-11 overall as well and 4-6 in conference. With only two more conference games remaining, LT hopes to gain some momentum heading into playoffs when the team visits the York Dukes on Feb. 14 and the Glenbard West Hilltoppers on Feb. 17.
